Specialities from Haute-Saône

In Franche-Comté and Haute-Saône, local produce plays a major role in local gastronomy.

Wine is an essential part of Comtois culture. Vines enjoyed a spectacular boom in the 18th century. It was planted wherever it could grow. At that time, Haute-Saône had almost 20,000 hectares of vines and was the leading wine-producing department in Franche-Comté!

The Haute-Saône region is particularly well suited to cereal farming and orchards. Cherries are grown in Fougerolles to make Griottines, and mirabelle plums are grown in the Villersexel area on hillsides left open after the phylloxera crisis.

Finally, cancoillotte is another product that bears witness to the richness of the local gastronomy, born of peasant culture.
