Wine in Haute-Saône

It's often forgotten, but Haute-Saône has long been a very wine-growing department, even more so than the Jura, with almost 20,000 hectares of vines!

Winegrowing has been practised here since the Middle Ages, and developed very strongly when the archbishops of Besançon established their authority over the vineyards of Gy and Charcenne.

But this prosperous period did not last. In 1853-1854, cholera decimated part of the population. This plague was followed by the invasion of phylloxera. In the space of a few years, the vines disappeared.

It wasn't until 1895 that the Guillaume family set about bringing the vines back to life by grafting.

Today, vineyards can be found mainly in Champlitte, Charcenne and Gy. You can choose to taste Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay, Sauvignon, Auxerrois...
