Mirabelles plums in Pays de Villersexel
Mirabelles ripen in mid-August and are harvested by shaking the tree with a hook. Small, yellow, spotted with pink and very fragrant, mirabelles from the Villersexel region
are ideal for making tarts, jams, confectionery, brandies, etc...
The Mirabelle plum route
The Mirabelle region comprises 13 communes in the Doubs and Haute Saône departments: Abbenans, Marvelise, Gémonval, Bournois, Fallon, Grammont, Courchaton, Melecey, Georfans, Vellechevreux and Courbenans, Crevans and la Chapelle les Granges, Secenans and Saulnot.
In the 19th century, as a result of phylloxera, the vines were replaced by Mirabelle plums. Cultivation progressed until the 1960s and 1970s, but from the 1980s onwards, the mirabelle plum declined.
Threatened with extinction in the region, the tree was saved by collective action in 1993.
Since then, the Syndicat des Producteurs de Mirabelles des Hauts Coteaux du Pays de Villersexel has been promoting the replanting of orchards to boost production and raise the profile of the local Mirabelle plum as a specific variety.
A sign has been installed at the entrance to each mirabelle-producing commune.
Follow the yellow and green signposts and take a stroll along the back roads through the orchards.

To do :
